UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is the largest and most prestigious Islamic institution in Indonesia and the epicentre for Islamic studies. Head of Center for International Cooperation

Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, is an Associate Professor at department of Early Childhood Education, Faculty of Education, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at School of Graduate Research, Central Queensland University, Australia. Her research interests include the well-being of children and adolescents, resilience studies, disaster education, narrative research and narrative pedagogy, and culture and value in education. Maila earned a doctorate in education from Universiti Putra Malaysia, a master’s degree in education from McGill University in Canada, and a bachelor’s degree in education from Universitas Negeri Jakarta in Indonesia. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the School of Public Affairs at the University of South Florida in the United States and a visiting fellow at the Faculty of Humanities at Leibniz University Hannover in Germany.

Prior to pursuing a career in academia, Maila worked as a humanitarian aid worker in conflict- and disaster-affected areas. She is always moved by human stories. This has an effect on her research methodologies, which heavily rely on narratives as a source of data. She is continuing to work on social and relief programs by becoming a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) consultant for international and local organizations.
