The transformation from the Institute for Islamic Studies to Islamic university brought so many consequences. With the fast growing development of the university both in terms of its infrastructure and its academic activities, UIN Jakarta begins to assert itself as part of the international academic community. Since 2000, many international cooperation and networking have been established. A significant number of Muslim countries also started to send their students to study at UIN Jakarta.

For this reason an office for the administration of international students was established in 2006. The Center is designed to provide services to international students as well as international research fellows. The establishment of the International Office comes with following mandates. First, to promote, establish and maintain international networks and opportunities for UIN Jakarta’s students, academic, and management. Second, to promote, establish, and provide services for international researchers. lecturers, staff, students and official visitors. Third, to assist and support UIN Jakarta in achieving professional recognition internationally.
