Jakarta, 24th May 2023 – International students from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta attended an international seminar held by UHAMKA on Wednesday, 24th May 2023. The seminar, themed “Indonesia Malaysia Outlook: The Role of Indonesia and Malaysia for the Peace of Southeast Asia and World Civilization”, took place at the Ahmad Dahlan Auditorium on the sixth floor of the FKIP UHAMKA building at Jl. Tanah Merdeka, Kp.Rambutan, East Jakarta.

UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta dispatched seven international students to the event: Hayatun Nadirah, Dayang Abilla Asyiqin Binti Matali Rosli, Nurina Aneesa Binti Azmeer, Noradilah Binti Norodin, Ummi Aisyah Binti Sabri, Noratiqah Binti Azmi, Nurnisa Aqilah Binti Hod, Nurul Najihah Binti Mohd Sukri, Syarif, and Dafa. Ratna Faeruz from the Center for International Cooperation accompanied the students.

The seminar began at 08:30 AM and ended at 5:00 PM. The day included a welcoming speech by the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. Syafiq Mughni, MA, and the launch of the book “Malaysia: Rocky Road Towards a Democratic Nation” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, M.A. The event was attended by UHAMKA’s leaders, several diplomats, academics, and the international student community, among others.

In his address, UHAMKA’s Rector, Prof Gunawan Suryoputro, expressed that education plays a significant role in actualizing peace from Southeast Asia to the world. He believes that peace initiatives will be effectively implemented through early education. Prof Syafiq Mughni pointed out that the world continues to face challenges regarding peace, ranging from power struggles, monopolies, and extremism, to Islamophobia. He emphasized the responsibility of the Muslim community to address these issues collectively.

Assoc Prof Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim highlighted that the seminar aimed to foster a conducive environment in Southeast Asia for building robust economies and civilizations. He added that security and peace are paramount for economic and political stability and are prerequisites for democracy. Mohammad Fazril bin Mohd Saleh, the Secretary-General of ABIM, expressed his hopes for resolutions and actions to enhance Indonesia’s relationship with Malaysia. “We hope that a resolution will emerge that can further deepen the layers of Indonesia and Malaysia’s relationship, not only at the government level but also in all other sectors, including ABIM for the community,” said Mohammad Fazril.
